Abstract

1414371 Electromagnetic I C engine fuel injectors REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 3 Jan 1973 [6 Jan 1972 15 Dec 1972] 458/73 Heading FIB [Also in Division H1] The valve of an injector is formed by a magnetic ball 4, e.g. magnetic stainless steel, and fluid is admitted through an inlet conduit 3 in the solenoid core 2. The core 2, casing 1 and nozzle 8 are formed of magnetic material and the valve seat 6 is formed of non-magnetic material, e.g. austenitic stainless steel or cupro-beryllium. The ball 4, which may be hollow, or the inner end 2b of the core may have a thin non-magnetic coating, e.g. chromium, cupro-beryllium or a cermet. A non- magnetic part (16), Fig. 4 (not shown), may be located in a recess in the inner end of the core. The ball biasing spring may be located in a central recess (22), Fig. 5 (not shown), in the inner end of the core and a shoe (20) provided between the spring and ball. The ball and/or shoe may have a non-magnetic coating. The nozzle 8 may have a pair of injection orifices (23, 23′) Fig. 6 (not shown), to deliver to respective engine induction passages, Fig. 10 (not shown). A non-magnetic tube (42), Fig. 7 (not shown), may be located around the core (32), ball (34) and seat (36), the seat being formed with the injection orifice (43). The connecting wires to the solenoid coil may be in the form of a printed circuit (50), Fig. 9 (not shown). The nozzle 8 may have an extension (54), Fig. 11 (not shown), to which the orifice 13 opens. The extension chamber has an outlet orifice (56) opposite the nozzle orifice and an atmospheric air inlet (57) with a diameter four to five times larger than the chamber outlet orifice. The extension (54) may be located in an engine induction pipe.
