1421144 Chloral hydrate capsules E R SQUIBB & SONS INC 29 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 58135/72 Heading A5B A pharmaceutical product comprises a onepiece gelatin capsule containing a substantially non-aqueous composition comprising chloral hydrate and a buffering agent for maintaining the pH within the range 4 to 7, e.g. an alkali metal salt of a carboxylic acid. The capsule fill may be liquid and contain a non-aqueous liquid such as a glycol, a polyethylene glycol or glycerol and, optionally, a viscosity builder such as fumed silica, silica, silicic acid, methyl cellulose, a hydroxyalkyl cellulose or an alkaline earth metal silicate, or it may be a solid, e.g. a gelatin matrix through which the chloral hydrate and buffer are distributed.
