Abstract
1421295 Charging coke ovens without pollution; removing waste products in industrial processes WAAGNER-BIRO AG 5 Feb 1973 [7 Feb 1972] 5680/73 Headings F4B and F4X Apparatus for charging coke ovens without pollution comprises a lorry car movable over the coke ovens, connections 24 on the outlet pipes 32 of the hoppers 22, 26, gas collecting pipes 38 for collecting gas escaping through the connections 24, a standpipe 66 for each oven connected to a gas collecting main 72, the whole space above the ovens being enclosed and having a third gas-collecting main 64, means for burning and cleaning the collected gas and discharging it to atmosphere. To connect a lorry car hopper to a coke oven the plug 28 is first removed and the connector 24 is then lowered into the opening. The pipes 38 are flexible and carry the gas to rigid pipes 40 which extend to the rear of the lorry car and are connected to a burner 42. The burner outlet is connected to one of a series of connector pipes 52 of the collecting main 50. The three collecting mains 50, 64, 72 are connected to a burner where inflammable gas is burned and a cleanser where dust &c. is removed. The heat produced in the burner may be used to generate steam or in a coal drying plant. Heat is removed from the gases leaving the oven through the standpipe 66 by a water jacket 92. A valve 82 controls the proportion of gas from the oven which flows to gas collecting main 72 and to coke oven gas main 88. The pipes 70 may enter main 72 tangentially, the induced swirl serving to prevent dust deposit in the main.
