Abstract
1433091 1,5- and 1,8-Dinitroanthraquinone BAYER AG 8 Feb 1974 [10 Feb 1973] 05884/74 Heading C2C 1,5- and/or 1,8-Dinitroanthraquinone is isolated from the reaction product of the nitration of anthraquinone and/or 1-nitroanthraquinone, or an anthraquinone nitration mixture, or from any other mixture which consists essentially of 1,5-, 1,8-, 1,6- and 1,7- dinitroanthraquinones, by treating the dinitroanthraquinone mixture with nitric acid at a molar ratio of nitric acid to dinitroanthraquinone of 10 : 1 to 80 : 1 and at a nitric acid molar fraction of 0À90 to 0À65, or adjusting the molar ratio and molar fraction in the mixture to such values, separating off the undissolved 1,5-dinitroanthraquinone and thereafter precipitating the 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone by adjusting the nitric acid molar fraction to 0À80 to 0À50 and the molar ratio to 10 : 1 to 80 : 1 or isolating the 1,5- and 1,8- dinitroanthraquinones together from the dinitroanthraquinone mixture by adjusting the molar fraction to 0À80 to 0À50 and the molar ratio to 10 : 1 to 80 : 1.
