Abstract
1438957 Valves RADIATION Ltd 31 Aug 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 42103/72 Heading F2V In a valve for controlling the gas supply to a water heater in accordance with the water flow, a permanent magnet 44 actuates a gas control valve 34 when a water-flow responsive member, comprising a permanent magnet 57 mounted in a holder between a number of legs 58 extending from an end plate 59, is lifted sufficiently for the two magnets to repel each other with sufficient force to overcome the adjustable bias of a spring 60. The gas control valve 34 is also under the influence of a diaphragm 43 so that a constant pressure is maintained at the gas outlet (33). A constant water flow is provided by a water governor the domed head of which presses against an apertured or pervious disc 31 to control the flow in response to pressure changes. The skirt of the governor is castellated to provide guidance to the governor. Body part 30 may be made of an aluminium alloy and body part 31 of glass-filled polyphenylene oxide. The permanent magnets are made of axially magnetized anisotropic barium ferrite covered with a thin layer of polytetrafluoroethylene for protection.
