Abstract
1442087 Printing plates LASER GRAPHIC SYSTEMS CORP 4 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 04967/74 Heading B6C [Also in Divisions H4 and G2] A composite plate, for making a printing plate or other surface in relief, comprises a writing layer capable of absorbing a coherent, first radiation of a first wavelength and reflecting a coherent, second radiation of a second wavelength, a substrate made of a plastics material that is capable of absorbing the second radiation and is unaffected by the first radiation, and a barrier layer capable of absorbing the second radiation and located intermediate the substrate and the writing layer to prevent any substance, which exudes from the substrate on exposure of the substrate to the second radiation, from contacting the writing layer, whereby the profile of the writing layer formed by exposure to the first radiation is maintained. The writing layer may be a metallic film, e.g. of copper 200-2000 Š thick. The barrier layer may be au acrylic polymer, e.g. methyl methacrylate, methyl/n-butyl methacrylate copolymer or ethyl methacrylate resin, the substrate may be cellulose nitrate.
