Abstract
1444942 Treating polyester fibres with acrylic compounds GISEN CO Ltd 30 Nov 1973 55615/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division D1] Polyester fibres having improved water repellent, oil repellent and antistatic properties are obtained by contacting polyester fibres with #-benzoylacrylic acid and/or #-(2-anthraquinonyl)acrylic acid and subsequently heat treating the fibres, in the presence of a free radical initiator, with a resin which has the properties mentioned above and which is derived from one or more monomers having the group -O.COCH=CH 2 . The resin is suitably derived from a perfluoroalkyl acrylate monomer. Examples of free radical initiators are benzoyl peroxide and ammonium persulphate. The acrylic acid derivative and the resin are each suitably applied to the fibres as an aqueous composition and the resin may be applied together with other agents such as agents for improving hand or feel, fibre softeners, antistatic agents and free radical accelerators. The polyester fibres may be treated in the form of yarns or cloth and may be admixed with other fibres.
