Abstract

1447109 Valves DOVER CORP 20 Dec 1973 [26 Dec 1972] 59107/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division G3] An automatic shut-off nozzle has a main valve 17 controlling flow between an inlet 11 and an outlet tube 14 which is sealed in a tank filling opening by a bellows 81 and a seal (82). When the valve 17 is opened by a trigger 23 flow through the valve moves a spring-loaded valve member 31 away from its seat 36 to form a throttle passage which creates a suction in chamber 52 via passage 54. Chamber 52 is connected to a conduit 45 which opens in the tank adjacent the nozzle end by a throttle valve 89. If the vapour pressure in the tank rises above a predetermined value this pressure is communicated via conduit 45 to act on a diaphragm 49 to close the valve 89. Vacuum can thus build up in chamber 52 to act on a diaphragm 53 which moves to release locking balls 67 and thus allows the trigger to move to close the main valve 17. When the tank is filled to a predetermined level the end of the conduit 45 is blocked by the liquid so that the vacuum can build-up in camber 52 to release the trigger and allow the main valve to close. In a modification the valve 31 is mounted at the inner end of the nozzle and the throttle valve 89 is mounted on the side of the nozzle.
