Abstract

1447175 Moulding containers KRAFTFAHBZEUGWERK «ERNST GRUBE» VEB 2 May 1974 [21 May 1973] 19217/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A container is made by assembling on a shaft: two prefabricated container end walls; at least one prefabricated intermediate wall; and at least two mandrel sets each including arcuate plates which are arranged to define cylindrical surfaces in alignment with the outer surfaces of shanks on the walls, and rotating the shaft to wind fibres impregnated with synthetic material over the plates and shanks to form the container envelope. Each mandrel set comprises, Fig. 2, two assembled rings 12 each supported by four extendable arms 13, and arcuate plates 11 releasably supported by the rings to form a cylindrical winding surface. Covering layer 15 prevents wound material adhering to the plates. To wind a container, Fig. 1, two pre-fabricated end walls 5 each having a cylindrical shank 9, and the required number of intermediate pre-fabricated walls 16 each having two cylindrical shanks 17, are mounted on rotatable winding shaft 2. Mandrel sets 10 are mounted on the shaft between the walls, the rings 12 engaging the interior of the shanks and the surface of plates 11 being flushwith the shanks. A foam core 19 is inserted between the two discs 18 forming walls 16. A layer 1 of resinated fibres is then wound on and cured. An opening 23 is then cut between each pair of walls to allow the mandrel sets to be dismantled and removed. The central apertures in walls 16 may then be sealed.
