Abstract
1448015 Cathode-ray tubes RCA CORPORATION 18 Sept 1973 [18 Sept 1972] 43824/73 Heading H1D In a cathode-ray tube having a magnetic focussing field which defines a principal axis, and an electron gun having a cathode and a plurality of electrodes defining a gun axis, the gun is spaced from the principal axis and is disposed so that the gun axis is both tilted and twisted with respect to the principal axis; by suitable choice of the tilt and skew angles of the gun axis with respect to the principal axis, compensation for the effect of the radial variation of the magnetic focusing field may be effected, to permit normal incidence of a scanned beam from the gun on a target disposed perpendicular to the principal axis. The Specification refers to tilt angles in the range 2 to 6 degrees and skew angles in the range 1 to 4 degrees, and to tubes incorporating a plurality of such off-axis obliquely directed guns, or such a gun together with an on-axis gun. A two-gun vidicon colour pick-up tube is described, Figs. 1 and 2, having two such guns 32a and 32b, a focusing solenoid and magnetic scan system 58, and a two-part target formed by a pair of semi-circular tin oxide signal electrode layers 24, Fig. 2, spaced from one another by 0À65 mm., both layers and the intervening space being coated with antimony trisulphide photoconductor. Each gun scans the photoconduotor above a respective one of the signal electrodes, the signals from which are taken off via a corresponding pair of aluminium contact layers 20 connected to conductive glass frit buttons 22 sealed through the faceplate. The annular focusing electrode 48 acts also as a getter fixture.
