Abstract
1460208 A power-plant for an underwater vessel FORENADE FABRIKSVERKEN 27 Sept 1974 [10 Oct 1973] 42187/74 Heading F1Q [Also in Division B7] A power-plant for an underwater vessel, which may be a submarine torpedo, comprises a propulsion motor 14 driven by a pressure propellent including a steam component, a steam generator 13 for generating the steam component by mixing cooling water with combustion gases produced therein, a tank 1 for the cooling water, means 18 for supplying in a controlled manner pressurized water from the surrounding sea to the tank, condensing means 15 for condensing steam in exhaust gases discharged from the motor, means 16 for returning pressurized condensate from the condensing means to the tank and means 12 for delivering to the steam generator cooling water from the tank, the returning means and the delivering means being disposed such that in use the cooling water delivered to the steam generator substantially consists of returned condensate. As shown the tank 1 is divided into four compartments, the compartment 4 containing fuel, the compartments 5 and 6 containing pressurized water and the compartment 9 containing oxidant. The non-condensable portion of the exhaust gas is compressed by a compressor 17 to a pressure above the external water pressure. Sea water flows through a pressure regulating valve 19 which is provided with an expulsion outlet 20 and a regulator 21 for adjusting the pressure.
