Abstract
1460236 Porcupine drafting rollers SOC ALSACIENNE DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES DE MULHOUSE 2 July 1975 [3 July 1974] 27931/75 Headings DID and DIN A drafting assembly has pairs of feed rollers 2, 3 and drawing rollers 4, 5 between which a porcupine roller 18 is located, said porcupine roller having teeth whose rear working edge is in the form of an involute of a circle. This tooth form gives an optimum angle with respect to the fibres during withdrawal from the fibres. The roller 18 is formed from toothed discs with spacer washers or integral thickened bosses. A keyway 37 on the shaft 13 engages a key which locates in alternative slots 38, 38′ in the toothed disc. One slot 38 aligns with a tooth while 38′ is displaced by a half pitch, this allows the teeth to be staggered. Several key slots may be provided at fractional pitch displacements. The discs are retained by a nut on a threaded portion of shaft 13. The roller may alternatively be formed from the solid by any suitable method of manufacture.
