Abstract
1466328 Sintered glass ceramic-metal composites ISHIZUKA GARASU KK 1 May 1974 [4 May 1973] 19113/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division C7] A metal matrix (e.g. of Cu, Fe, Al or alloys based on these) has dispersed therein at least 1% (e.g. 2-65%) based on the weight of the composite, of glass ceramic particles having an integrally bonded coating layer of Cu and/or Ag and optionally also Al 2 O 3 and/or SiO 2 particles. The coated particles which may be in the form of fibres preferably have a size of 1 to 400 microns and may be made by the process as disclosed in Specifications 1,341,533 or 944,571 when refractory particles of same size as the glass ceramic particles may be used to prevent agglomeration of the latter. The composite is made by sintering a powder mixture by pressure and heat (e.g. in an atmosphere of decomposed ammonia or hydrogen). Use.-Abrasion resistant machine parts such as bearings or brakes.
