Abstract

1481529 Cephalosporin-type antibiotic MEIJI SEIKA KAISHA Ltd 27 Nov 1974 [28 Nov 1973] 51411/74 Heading C2C Novel compound, SF-1623, having the Formula (I) and its non-toxic pharmaceutically acceptable salts, e.g. alkali metal and ammonium salts, are obtained in the form of the alkali metal salt by cultivating an SF-1623 producing strain of Streptomyces chartreusis in a culture medium containing assimilable carbon and nitrogen sources under aerobic conditions in the presence of an alkali metal thiosulphate to produce and accumulate the alkali metal salt of SF-1623 in the culture, then recovering the salt from the culture. The micro-organism used is preferably Streptomyces chartreusis SF-1623 (identified as ATCC 21999), the cultivation be carried out at 28-37‹ C. for 2-6 days, preferably in the presence of sodium thiosulphate. The product exhibits antibacterial activity mainly against gram-negative bacteria.
