Abstract
1481997 Beater mills OSAKA GAS CO Ltd & HOSOKAWA FUNTAI KOGAKU KENKYUSHO KK 17 Sept 1974 [18 Sept 1973] 40555/74 Heading B2A A beater mill includes an integral centrifugal classifier. Material is supplied via chute 15 Fig. 1, comminuted by beaters 7 in a first housing and drawn through an annular conduit 10 around the beaters into a second housing 2 by vortex action generated by the beaters 7 and enhanced by adjustable vanes 17, Fig. 3. The shape of the second housing 2 which has a sloping wall surface 18 is such that coarse material is returned to the beater housing 1 via conduits 13. Fine material is discharged at 19. The two housings are separated by a partition plate 9. In a second embodiment the sloping wall surface 21 Fig. 4 protrudes into the first housing 1 and thus returns the coarse material more accurately into the beater zone. A third embodiment provides adjustment of the opening of the conduit 13 by a barrier plate 20 operated by a handle 22 Fig. 5. A further embodiment provides the adjustment by axial movement of a barrier plate 20 Fig. 7 to control the size of the second conduit 13. Embrittling materials may be chilled with refrigerants. The housings 1 and 2 may be spaced apart instead of being joined by a single partition wall.
