1482064 Production of cyclohexanone and pcresol or phenol UBE INDUSTRIES Ltd 22 Jan 1976 [31 Jan 1975] 02423/76 Heading C2C The invention relates to a method for producing cyclohexanone and p-cresol or phenol comprising oxidizing in the liquid phase, ptolylcyclohexane or phenylcyclohexane by contacting a gas containing molecular oxygen with the p-tolylcyclohexane or phenylcyclohexane in the presence of HBr, and isolating the resultant cyclohexanone and p-cresol or phenol from the oxidation mixture. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an inert organic solvent and a reaction initiator selected from azobisbutylonitrile, laurylperoxide, benzoylperoxide and t.butylhydroperoxide.
