Abstract
1486860 Cams; linkwork MEYER ROTH & PASTOR MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 6 March 1975 [20 March 1974] 9418/75 Heading F2K [Also in Division B3] A welding machine for the electric resistance welding together of rod ends, particularly the ends of pre-curved chain links 3, comprises an upsetting arrangement 4-14 for acting on the respective rod ends, and the upsetting tools 4, 5 are moved in dependence on a movable cam 18 which has, over a partial region of its control contour 20, at least one adjustable contour element 23 so that the characteristics of the welding operation, e.g. upsetting pressure and/or welding current flow, can be adjustably set. The upsetting arrangement is spring biased by springs 15 to a maximum upsetting pressure and the cam 18 acts through bell crank lever 13 to relieve the spring force during the positioning of a link 3 on a saddle 2, and then with current supplied to electrodes 1 the upsetting force is applied as the cam is rotated and the contour element 23 engages a roller 17 of the bell crank lever 13. The element 23 may be of corrugated or wave-like contour to bring the rod ends together and then withdraw them in a flash-butt welding operation. The element 23 is pivotally connected at one end to the cam and has an adjusting device 24, e.g. a screw, at its other end. The cam may have at least two elements 23 of different length and contours mounted in the cam and being selectively used as the operating cam contour. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the upsetting force is not supplied by the spring 15 and the lever 13 acts directly on the yoke 12. The cam may also include correction elements which modify the contour of the contour element 23.
