Abstract
1500879 Tool holders ALBERT SCHREM KG 12 Aug 1976 [16 Aug 1975] 33568/76 Headings B3K and B3B An hydraulic clamping device for clamping a tool, e.g. a milling cutter, on a shaft 17, comprises a housing 1 connectable coaxially to the shaft 17 to be rotated therewith and providing a pressure chamber 2 filled with an hydraulic medium, a first piston 4, 5 actuable by a screw device 6-9 to generate a pressure in the chamber, a second piston 11, 12 displaceable in said chamber 2 in response to said pressure to transmit a clamping force, via pins 14 and a sleeve 15, to the tool, and a third piston 19 biased by springs 25 to a withdrawn position and being loaded by the pressure prevailing in the chamber 2 to be displaced against said springs 25 to indicate by its displacement the presence of said pressure. The third piston 19 may carry on its extension 26 a spring baised electrical contact wiper 29 which, as shaft 17 rotates, is held by said pressure in contact with a wiper ring 36 of a stationary cover 35, whereby a drive motor may be automatically switchedoff if the pressure in the chamber 2 leaks away. Alternatively (Fig. 2, not shown) the extension 26 may have coloured rings (41) which are viewed relative to a datum face (42) to judge the pressure in chamber 2. The milling cutter is clamped axially between the sleeve 15 and an abutment on the shaft 17.
