Abstract

1506294 Gaseous filters for optical gas analysers FORD AEROSPACE & COMMUNICATIONS CORP 4 June 1975 [5 June 1974] 24174/75 Heading G1A A gaseous filter cell for use as a rotatable chopper in a non dispersive gas analyzer comprises a cylindrical body 24, Fig. 2, which can be fitted to a shaft by a collar 28 and which has gas chambers 25, 26 defined by end windows 31, 32 and a partition between the chambers; the chambers can be filled with appropriate gas through apertures 29, 30 which are normally closed by screws and O ring seals. The assembly is secured with epoxy cement, and the windows may each be in two parts to aid cementing to the partition between the chambers. If the gas pressures are above atmosphere, a design using end caps bearing on the windows may be used, Fig. 10, (not shown). A chopper 33 may be included on or between the windows. To fill the chambers, an attachment as in Fig. 6 is bolted to a flat machined on the assembly, or is held on by a strap, Fig. 7, (not shown). Knob 56 allows screw 35 to be released so that gas may be passed into the chamber via a supply line (not shown) connected to the attachment at 57. One of the chambers may be evacuated and covered with a neutral filter; in place of that filter, the chopper spacing may be altered to reduce the energy flow through the evacuated chamber. A design with four chambers is given, Fig. 9, for use with two light beams to permit two measurements to be made simultaneously in a gas analyzer.
