Abstract

1506349 Turntable-mounted, heated diaphragm presses SOC IMMOBILIERE ET FINANCIERE SUCHET ALFORT 26 July 1976 [8 Sept 1975] 31040/76 Heading B5A Articles (footwear, imitation leather, suitcase handles) are compression moulded in a machine comprising a series of diaphragm presses 1 (Fig. 1) mounted on a turntable 2 and moved in turn through a high-frequency heating station 6, whereafter the presses are cooled. A mould 17 (Fig. 3) filled with PVC powder, paste, liquid, sheet or slab, is placed by a dispenser 8 in a diaphragm press comprising a metal plate 10, perforated slab 11, rubber diaphragm 12, floating slab 13 linked to the slab 11 by conductive foils 14, and an upper slab 15 all mounted in electrically insulating plates 18. Pressure (which may be different for each mould) is applied by air or fluid through slab 11 to the diaphragm 12. When a press arrives beneath a heating bell 6 (Fig. 4a), an hydraulic jack 21 raises the press into the bell until metal plate 10 (acting as a screen) seals against the bell, and an element 20 contacts a press conducting plate 16 (Fig. 3). After high-frequency heating under pressure, the press is lowered and moved away from the bell 6, and cooled under pressure by water pipes 5 fed from a rotating cooler 4 (or from an offtable cooler (24), see Fig. 5, not reproduced). A cam on dispenser 8 (Fig. 1) removes the diaphragm pressure, and the mould is replaced by a newly filled one.
