1517048 Modifying metallic surfaces; eg nitriding boriding silicizing or vanadizing DEUTSCHE GOLD UND SILBER SCHEIDEANSTALT 14 Aug 1975 [29 Aug 1974] 33872/75 Headings C7F and C7U A metal surface, e.g. Fe or Ti, is e.g. nitrided, borided, siliconized or vanadized, and parts of the surface are masked during the thermochemical treatment by a self-adhesive textile tape which has metal powder in the adhesive. The powder may be Cu-Sn, Sn, Ag-Cu, Cu-copper oxide, Cu, Ag, Ni or Al, Cd, Pb, and oxides, halides or sulphides of these metals. Boriding may be by heating in a silicon carbide, boron carbide, potassium borofluoride powder mixture. Nitriding may be effected in a salt bath containing 35 to 40% CNO and 1 to 2% CN.
