1522496 Heat treatment F HANAU SA and BARRIQUAND FRERES 16 Oct 1975 [24 Oct 1974] 42486/75 Heading A2D Method of heat treatment of product sealed in containers by heat exchange between a liquid and said products, the heat treatment comprising at least two phases at different temperatures, wherein the method comprises the steps of positioning a batch of containers within an enclosure; repetitively passing a single charge of liquid through the enclosure with the liquid being uniformly distributed over the containers and trickling over the walls of the containers; and adjusting the temperature of the charge of liquid between phases of the heat treatment. The containers may be positioned in vertical layers upon a plurality of perforate support means 22, 23 and 24 as shown in Fig. 3. The pressure in the enclosure and the flow rate of the exchange liquid may be independently regulated. The apparatus for carrying out the above method is provided with a liquid distributing means in the form of perforate divider plates which plates may be hollow and each provided with a sleeve, which sleeves are mutually engageable to facilitate the distribution of the heat exchange liquid within the divided plates and subsequently over the walls of the containers (Figs. 8- 12, not shown).
