Abstract
1522545 Elevator control system WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 4 May 1976 [16 May 1975] 18146/76 Heading G2-3 An elevator system has a car position indicator 40 in a car 12 and a power supply therefor. A pick-up 30 optically or magnetically detects movements of openings in the governor sheave to give the advanced floor position of the car. Floor selector 34 produces distance pulses from pulse detector 32 and feeds reversible counter 70 which gives the advanced car position. The binary representation of discrete advanced floor position from counter 72 is converted by programmable read only memory 74 to a binary word describing that floor location. The outputs of counter 70 and memory 74 are compared in unit 76, equality indicating that slowdown must be initiated at this point. If deceleration is not initiated, comparator 76 activates indexer 78 which changes counter 72, and hence memory 74 produces a word for the next floor in the travel direction. Another programmable read only memory in the car receives advanced car position signals AVP0- AVP4 and gives two four bit BCD words giving the desired display rotation which drive two digits of a liquid crystal display 40, e.g. of the field effect or dynamic scattering type, or an electro-phoretic display, Figs. 2A, 2B (not shown). If the logic is COS/MOS and the display is a field effect type, a Zener diode/resistor power supply can be used in the car which is connected to a 125 volt supply. The read only memory is the car is made compatible with the Zener diode/resistor power supply by operating it intermittently to greatly reduce average power consumption. Latches are strobed when the memory is activated to preserve the output thereof until the next power supply pulse is applied to the memory.
