Abstract

1522600 Plant protein purification BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM GmbH 1 Dec 1975 [29 Nov 1974] 51885/74 Heading C3H Water-soluble by-protein or mixture of byproteins in substantially pure form obtainable from the plant material of Canavalia ensiformis, Abeus praecatorius or Ricinus communis containing water-soluble agglutinins and/or toxins by separation of the latter component(s) from the water-soluble protein component(s) of the plant material are claimed per se. The plant material (preferably in the form of seeds) may be crushed, degreased and subjected to a first separation by means of extraction from NaCl solution and dialysing the water-insoluble toxic globulins. The remaining clean solution is further purified by salting out several times with a saturated (NH4)2SO4 solution. Final separation may be effected by electrophoresis, membrane diafiltration or chromatography.
