Abstract

1522602 Current collectors HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd 7 Aug 1975 [28 May 1974] 23577/74 Heading B7L A power collection system for an electric transport system comprises a plurality of arms 41-4111 carrying collector shoes 21-2111 urged into engagement with conductor rails 31-3111, the arms being movable in a plane perpendicular to the rails to allow relative movement between the rails and vehicle or to allow variations in the rail spacings without displacing the shoes from the rails. The rails are spaced vertically or horizontally and are provided with V-shaped extension plates for guiding the collector shoes into engagement with the rails at the start of a run. The vehicle may be provided with pairs of arms 41, 111; 411, 1111; and 4111, 11111 supported by carriers 131, 1311 and 13111, respectively. Each carrier is mounted on a central support 8 by a parallel linkage arrangement whereby the arms may be maintained in a horizontal position. In addition, the arrangement of the arms in pairs ensures that movement of one arm aligns the other arm of the pair with its corresponding conductor rail to allow smooth transfer between the sets of rails 101-10111 and 31-3111 at a branch point. In another arrangement Fig. 7 (not shown) the two sets of arms 41-4111 and 111-11111 are mounted on separate, spaced supports and are rigidly connected to transfer vertical movements between the corresponding pairs of arms. The two sets may be rigidly interconnected whereby all six arms move in unison. In another embodiment, the system comprises two live conductor rails and a third rail co-operating with a dummy collector shoe used to align two live collector shoes.
