1523404 Mixing apparatus COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 15 July 1977 [16 July 1976] 29680/76 Heading BIC A first flamable substance overflows from a first container down an inclined face on to which a second flowable substance overflows from a second container, the substances mixing on the inclined face. In the apparatus shown the first substance (e.g. effluent containing fumes from a coal preparation plant) overflows from the first container 1 down the inner face of an inverted cone 6, on to which the second substance (e.g. water containing a flocculant) overflows from a second container 20, the mixture being discharged at 15 to a settling tank (not depicted). The container 1 has a tangential inlet 5, and perforated plates 8, 9 and baffles 11 discourage rotation of the liquids. Supply to container 20 may be controlled by a metering valve.
