Abstract

1525004 Reversibly cross-linkable polymer compositions NIPPON OIL CO Ltd 22 Oct 1975 [23 Oct 1974 23 July 1975 17 Sept 1975] 43419/75 Heading C3P Compositions which are liquid at lower temperatures and solid at higher temperatures, these states being reversible, comprise (1) an anionic derivative of a defined conjugated diene/unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (or derivative) copolymer, (2) sodium, potassium, lithium or nitrogen base cations in defined amount, (3) magnesium cations in defined amount, (4) anions of alkali metal or magnesium compounds used to provide cations (2) and (3), and (5) water in defined amount. In examples, copolymers of maleic anhydride with butadiene, isoprene, chloroprene or piperylene, or a citraconic anhydride/isoprene copolymer, are reacted simultaneously or sequentially with (2) NaOH, KOH, LiOH, NaHCO 3 , Na 2 CO 3 , NH 3 , dimethylamine, triethylamine, cyclohexylamine, n-butylamine, pyridine or NaOH/triethylamine, and (3) MgCl 2 , MgSO 4 or magnesium acetate. The compositions solidify on heating and revert to liquid form on cooling.
