Abstract

1525498 Binary pulse receiver PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Nov 1975 [27 Nov 1974] 48191/75 Headings H3T and H4P A receiver in a binary pulse transmission system comprises an input circuit (2, Fig. 1, not shown) from which base band binary signals are derived at a relatively low output impedance, a circuit (9) connected to the input circuit to automatically correct disturbances in the D.C. level of the binary signals caused during transmission and a pulse regenerator (10) having a relatively high input impedance to which the correction circuit (9) and a reference source (12) are connected. The correction circuit (9) is characterized by having two parallel branches 15, 16 connected at their inputs to the input circuit and at their outputs to the regenerator, the first branch 15 including a series capacitor 17 and the second including a detector 18 to derive a threshold signal from the peak values of the binary signals and a comparator 19 generating a binary decision signal in response to both the threshold signal and the binary signal and coupled via a resistor 20 to the ouput of the second branch and the time constant of the resistor 20 and capacitor 17 being much larger than the duration of an element in the binary signal. The comparator may be a differential amplifier 19, or it may comprise a differential amplifier and a difference circuit (23, Fig. 5, not shown) in which case the second input of the amplifier is connected to a reference potential (earth). Alternatively a summing circuit may be used (32, Fig. 8, not shown). A double ended threshold circuit (33) may be connected between the input and the summer and may consist of diodes (35, 36) in parallel or Zener diodes in series (not shown). The detector may comprise two diodes (21, 22, Fig. 5, not shown) in parallel with a common resistive load shunted by a capacitor such that the time constant is larger than the duration of a pulse element, or may have two separate detectors 21, 22 with their own loads 29, 30 and capacitors 27, 28 and a common resistor 31 to earth.
