Abstract

1525500 Valves NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 23 Dec 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 52567/75 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] In an I.C. engine afterburner system (Division F4) the air supply to the exhaust parts of an engine 12, Fig. 3, having rich running cylinders connected to an afterburner chamber 32 and lean running cylinders connected to afterburner chamber 34 is controlled in accordance with the temperature in after burner chamber 32 so that when the engine is running slowly, more air is fed through solenoid operated valve 74, Fig. 4 via line 98 and nozzles 60, 62 to the rich exhaust ports and when the engine speeds up, the plunger 102 of valve 74 is moved to allow more air to be fed to the lean exhaust ports through passages 84, 86 and line 100. The passages 80, and 84 are always open to feed a minimum amount of air to each set of exhausts, additional air being fed through passages 82 or 86 to one or other set of exhausts as required.
