1525524 Exhaust reactors NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 19 July 1976 [25 July 1975] 30018/76 Heading F1B The exhaust gas from an I.C. engine having exhaust gas recirculation (E.G.R.) is maintained in the thermal reactor 44 for sufficient time to cause complete reaction by the double chamber design having an effective volume of 1À5 to 5À0 times the engine displacement. Thermal insulation 52 surrounds the outer chamber well 48 and is present between the head and the exhaust passage liner 42. The engine may be the torch ignition type Fig. 1 (not shown) and the exhaust gas recirculation system may supply either or both of the inlet passages to the main and auxiliary chambers respectively Fig. 2 (not shown).
