Abstract

156,817. Lockett, W. T., and Shaw, A. Herring-. Aug. 11, 1917. Aerating. – Hollow rotary arms formed with porous upper surfaces through which air is passed into sewage are so shaped that the area of the porous surface contained in any portion of the arm is approximately proportional to the area of the sewage tank swept over by this portion of the arm. This may be effected by making. the arm of a sector shape as shown in Fig. 1. The whole surface of the arm a may be formed of the porous material in slabs c, as shown, or portions of porous material of any desired shape may be held in a frame of another material. The air may be all admitted at the end of the arm next the axis as at e, or separate supplies of air may be admitted by pipes to different portions of the hollow space of the arm. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6 a number of circular porous slabs are mounted on chambers i communicating with the arm a through branches f, the size of the slabs increasing at an appropriate rate as the distance from the axis increases.
