Description
(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO
INSPECTION CHAMBERS
(71) We, WAVIN B.V., a Dutch Body
Corporate of 251 Handellaan, Zwolle, Holland, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
This invention relates to inspection chambers for drainage, sewerage and other systems involving piping.
The invention is particularly, but not exclusively, applicable to land drainage systems.
According to the present invention there is provided a prefabricated inspection chamber having an open top closable by a cover, and connecting pipes integrally connected with and extending outwardly from side walling of the chamber adjacent the base thereof for connecting piping with the interior of the chamber, wherein at least one of the connecting pipes has an access pipe extending between adjacent its end remote from the side walling and the side walling of the chamber adjacent the top thereof for allowing access to piping connected to said at least one connecting pipe in use from within the chamber adjacent the top thereof.
In order that the invention may be well understood, an embodiment thereof, which is given by way of example only, will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of a prefabricated inspection chamber;
Figure 2 is a top view of the chamber; and
Figure 3 is a view along the line III-III of
Figure 1.
The illustrated prefabricated inspection chamber has an open top which is closable by a cover 2. Connecting pipes 3, 3′ extend outwardly from the side walling 1 of the chamber adjacent the base thereof for connecting piping (not shown) of a sewerage and/or drainage system with the interior of the chamber. The connecting pipes 3, 3′ are integral with the side walling, for example they may be adhered thereto. An access pipe 4, 4′ is associated with each connecting pipe 3, 3′ and extends between adjacent the end of the respective connecting pipe remote from the side walling 1 and the side walling of the chamber adjacent the top thereof. As illustrated, the access pipes extend into the chamber and open upwardly at one end and are connected to the connecting pipes at the other end via junctions 5, 5′.The access pipes 4, 4′ allow access to the piping (not shown) which is connected to the connecting pipes 3, 3′ in use from within the chamber adjacent the top thereof. The access pipes which are rectilinear in the embodiment are inclined to the connecting pipes – and thus the piping connected thereto – at an angle which allows entry into such piping of a cleaning head mounted on a water hose, which head might, for example, be fed through the piping over a distance of, say, 200 metres.
Of course the diameter of the access pipe is selected to facilitate feeding therethrough of the cleaning head.
As well as facilitating the cleaning of the piping the provision of the access pipes 4, 4′ in the prefabricated chamber strengthens the chamber.
Whilst the illustrated chamber is provided with four connecting pipes 3, 3′ for connecting piping it may be provided with a different number of such pipes depending upon site requirements. The chamber shown in the drawings is provided with four connecting branches but in a limiting case, where it is to be used in a single piping run, it need have only two connecting pipes, for example pipes 3, which connect piping of the run upstream and downstream of the chamber.
Again, whilst it is advantageous to have a respective access pipe associated with each connecting pipe of the chamber this is not essential.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
1. A prefabricated inspection chamber having an open top closable by a cover, and connecting pipes integrally connected with and extending outwardly from side walling of the chamber adjacent the base thereof for connecting piping with the interior of the chamber, wherein at least one of the connecting pipes has an access pipe extending between adjacent its end remote from the side walling and the side walling of the chamber adjacent the top thereof for allowing access to piping

3. A prefabricated inspection chamber as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein the connecting pipes are adhered to the side walling.
4. A prefabricated inspection chamber substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
