Abstract
9957. Marino, P. July 8. Metals, depositing.-A metallic solution to be mixed wirth ammonium, sodium, or potassium salicylate and ammonia, as described in Specification 28,953/12, is obtained by precipitating a metallic compound from a solution of a salt or oxide and dissolving the precipitate in a suitable solution. Particulars of the preparation of solutions of cobalt, nickel, copper, zinc, lead, antimony, iron, and tin are given. A cobalt solution may be treated with solution of sodium hypochlorite or hypobromite, and the precipitate dissolved by hot potassium cyanide solution; or ammonium carbonate may be used as precipitant and ammonium chloride as solvent, excess of potassium cyanide being afterwards added if necessary. For nickel, the precipitant and solvent, both in solution, may respectively be either sodium phosphate and phosphoric acid, or potassium bromate and potassium cyanide; for copper, ammonium sulphide and potassium cyanide; for zinc, sodium phosphate and acid or alkali; for lead, sulphuric acid and ammonium tartrate or acetate, or hydrochloric acid and sodium or ammonium acetate; for antimony, distilled water and an organic acid or potassium cyanide; for iron. potassium ferrocyanide and oxalic acid with potassium or ammonium oxalate; for tin, hydrogen sulphide and alkaline sulphide or caustic potash, or potassium bromate and potassium cyanide.
