Abstract
A composition for sealing or caulking joints and parting lines. especially of foundry or metallurgical equipment, comprises a binder and inorganic filler material, together with further additives if desired. The binder is a thixotropic binder comprising a non-drying oil, a gelling or thickening agent and a liquid polymer with a molecular weight of 2,000 to 10,000 and a viscosity of 4,000 to 500,000 cSt (at 99 DEG C.). The polymer is a liquid olefin polymer, a liquid diene polymer and/or a liquid diene polymer with modified terminal hydroxy groups. Preferably the binder comprises, by weight, 70 to 97% of mineral oil, 1 to 10% of gelling or thickening agent and 2 to 20% of liquid polymer. The composition may be prepared by mixing the ingredients kneading them and extruding or pressing the composition into lengths or strings.
