Abstract

Hirudin can be obtained using a specific DNA sequence in a genetic engineering process. The gene is advantageously synthesised in the form of several fragments which are enzymatically ligated to give two larger part-sequences which are incorporated into hybrid plasmids and amplified in host organisms. The part-sequences are reisolated and then combined to form the complete gene which is incorporated into a hybrid plasmid and the latter is expressed in a host organism.
