1,021,835. Train stopping arrangements. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Nov. 19, 1962 [Nov. 24, 1961], No. 43726/62. Heading B7N. A safety device for a railway vehicle controlled by an unaccompanied driver includes means for producing warning signals and for stopping the train if a dead man’s handle is released and for producing the same action each time the train has travelled through a predetermined distance unless the driver takes preventive action. The device responds, quickly to the first condition and slowly to the second. Warning device 10 and switching circuit 11 for stopping the train can be operated by associated bi-stable circuits 8, 9 which receive an input from OR gates 5, 6 controlled by the output of AND gates 3, 4 and the output b from the high stages of a distance measuring counter 7 suppled from. a pulse generator (not shown). Zero output on contact 1 of a dead man’s handle in its operated position blocks the AND circuits 3, 4. If the handle is held operated the distance count eventually reaches the high stages b of the counter when a signal on line 17 passes via OR gate 6 and triggers bi-stable circuit 9 to a state in which it operates device 10. If the driver takes no action the following signal on line 18 actuates the train stopping circuit via OR gate 5 and bi-stable circuit 8. If, however, the driver partially releases the handle a positive signal on contact 1 triggers monostable circuit 2 which supplies an output via OR gate 15 to reset the counter. Should the handle be released negative potential on contact 1 opens AND gates 3 and 4 and signals from the low stages a of the counter operate the warning and stopping circuits via OR gates 5 and 6 and bistable circuits 8 and 9.
