Abstract

1,025,319. Pipe wrapping. OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLASS CORPORATION. April 29, 1964 [May 8, 1963], Heading F2P. [Also in Division B5] A laminated pipe-wrap material comprises parallel spaced strands or yarns of mineral fibres and a paper sheet with a matric of butuminous material (asphalt or coal tar) impregnating and coating the sheet material and the fibres, and a synthetic resin film, e.g. polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and acetate and copolymers thereof, polyamides and other polyethylene resins, on one or both sides of the assembly, rendering it impervious to water but pervious to organic solvents. Before application to a pipe the latter is treated with a solvent release adhesive or primer comprising toluene, asphalt (coal tar pitch) and chloroprene rubber and the material is applied in a spiral path by a castered ring 70 carrying a spool 76 of the material and motivated in an appropriate manner.
