Abstract

Readily-filterable lithium fluoride is precipitated from a lithium containing solution by addition of hydrofluoric acid or a salt thereof, wherein the precipitation is commenced at a pH below 7 and completed by raising the pH. HF may be added as gas or solution, while a fluoride, e.g. NaF may be added as solution or solid. The lithium solution may be a Li2SO4 solution resulting from the treatment of ores with or without added H2SO4. The acid solution is neutralized by alkali metal, e.g. Na, carbonate or hydroxide.
