Abstract

Polyepoxide coating compositions comprise a polyepoxide, a 3,31,4,41-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride and a stannous salt of a monocarboxylic acid. The dianhydrides specified are of the formula wherein X is -H, halogen, -NO2, -CO2H, -SO3H or NH2. The stannous salts specified are stannous caproate, octoate, laurate, palmate, stearate, oleate and naphthenate. The compositions may also contain fillers, thixotroping agents and solvents. The preferred compositions are pulverulent for use in the fluidized bed coating process. It is also disclosed that the compositions may be used for casting, moulding, potting and encapsulating and that they may contain mould release agents.ALSO:Polyepoxide coating compositions comprising a polyepoxide, a 3, 31, 4, 41-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride and a stannous salt of a monocarboxylic acid may be applied in pulverulent form or in solution to substrates. They may be applied by means of a fluidized bed or by a compressed air spray gun or by electrostatic spraying and are cured by heating. In examples a steel probe and copper wire are coated in a fluidized bed. Steel and aluminium are coated with solutions of the compositions of the invention.
