Abstract

1,041,064. Endless conveyers. RAPIDS-STANDARD CO. Inc. May 7, 1963 [June 11, 1962], No. 17981/63. Heading B8A. In an endless conveyer 10 carriers 40 are suspended on rollers 24 from an I beam 12, driven by a chain 20, supported against transverse movement by an inverted V beam 26 and provided with pre-settable code means 14 arranged to co-operate with reading and selector unite 16 at discharge stations. The code means 14 comprises an actuator pin 70 and two sets 52, 54 of code pins 50 one pin from each set being elevated by depression of the appropriate keys 62. Each reading and selector unit 1 (Figs. 4, 5) is pivoted by arms 112, 114 to a fixed member 30 and retained in a neutral position by a bumper spring 118 and a tension spring 120. When a carrier approaches a reading and selector unit 16 the actuator pin 70 engages a ramp 124 on a track 108 which forces the unit 16 clockwise against the bumper spring 118 to bring the code pins 50 into contact with a reading surface 102 having two openings 104, 106. If the code matches the compressed bumper spring 118 forces the unit 16 outward into its neutral position causing the openings 104, 106 to pass over the code pins 59 so that the actuator pin 70 enters a branch track 10811 through an opening 109 forcing the reading and selector unit 16 counterclockwise against the tension spring 120 bringing a roller 43 connected to a discharge member 42 biased by a spring 46 into contact with a cam track 96 forcing the member 42 to pass over a supporting pin 38 on which the load (not shown) is hooked over a groove and thus discharge the load. Alternatively a hanging tray may be tilted to discharge its load, Fig. 9 (not shown). Movement of the reading and selector unit 16 due to correct code matching brings the pins 50 into contact with a slanted surface 100 thus depressing them and erasing the code. An actuator pin pre-setter unit 18 ensures that the actuator pin 70 is in the raised position to initiate reading only provided that one code pin 50 in each of the two sets 52, 54 is raised. If no code is set or only one pin 50 is (accidentally) set the actuator pin 70 is depressed to render it inactive if not already so positioned.
