Abstract

1,043,932. Grinding. FLEXTOL Ltd. July 26, 1965 [April 29, 1964], No. 17747/64. Heading B3D. [Also in Division B5] A rotary cut-off machine comprises a cutting head unit which has a cutting wheel 49 driven by a motor 10 and is mounted for pivotal movement on a frame by a pneumatic cylinder 27 controlled by a manually operated valve, operation of the cylinder pivoting the cutting head into and out of cutting relationship with a workpiece on a support 40 movable relative to the frame in a direction perpendicular to the pivoted axis of the cutting head. The cutting wheel has its axis parallel to the pivotal axis of the head and is driven by belts from the motor 10 which may be an electric, petrol, diesel or air motor mounted, with the cutting wheel, on a platform 11 carried by a pivot shaft 8, Fig. 2 (not shown), supported in bearings 6 in extensions of the rear legs 2 of the machine, the legs, with front legs, supporting a tray 1. A lever 23 is attached to the pivot shaft 8 and connected by an adjustment link 24 to the piston rod 26 of the pneumatic cylinder 27. The striker of the rod can be determined by a pair of collars 42 adjustably secured to the rod and disposed one on each side of an inverted U- shaped member 41 secured to the cylinder; the collars may be so adjusted that the rod is not movable relative to the cylinder to prevent vertical movement of the cutting tool. The lower end of the cylinder is mounted on a pivot 29, Fig. 5 (not shown), carried by a pair of levers rigidly attached to a rod 30 supported in bearings 31, 33 in the rear legs 2, and rotation of a rod 35, Fig. 6 (not shown), which has a handle 38 and is screw-threaded into a rod 37 connected by a link to the rod 30 causes rotation of the rod to adjust the pivot 29 of the cylinder to compensate for wear of the cutting wheel. An air compressor 4 is connected by a valve 56, Fig. 4 (not shown), to the cylinder, the valve being controlled by movement of a lever 52 by the leg of an operator to supply air to the cylinder to effect raising and lowering of the cutting wheel. The work to be cut, which may be stone, concrete, tiles, tubes or ferrous or non-ferrous castings, is placed on a surface 47, which may be coated or impregnated with abrasion grain to render it non-slippery, of a work-table 40 having wheels 44, 45 engaging rails 43 on the tray 1, the rails extending perpendicularly to the axes of the cutting wheel and shaft 8. The movement of. the table is limited by a stop plate. 48 engaging removable stops 50. Rail extensions 64, Fig. 8 (not shown) may be fitted to each end of the tray and the work carried by two tables 40. The table is formed with two slots 48 through which the cutting wheel may pass. A pump 16 driven by the motor 10 supplies coolant to the cutting wheel.
