Abstract
A stable dispersion of a polyurea in an organic liquid polyhydroxy compound is prepared by reacting an organic diisocyanate and a primary diamine, secondary diamine, hydrazine or a difunctional hydrazide wherein the number of NCO groups are substantially equivalent to the number of N atoms having bonded thereto hydrogen atoms which hydrogen atoms are more reactive with respect to the -NCO groups than the -OH groups of the liquid organic polyhydroxy compound which has at least two primary, secondary or tertiary -OH groups, a M.W. of at least 500 and an OH number of less than 225, in which compound the process is carried out. The organic diisocyanate may be aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic. The polyhydroxy compound may be a polyester, polyalkylene ether, polythio ether, polyacetal or aliphatic polyol. In examples (1) tolylene diisocyanate and hexamethylene diisocyanate were reacted separately with hydrazine hydrate in polypropylene glycol ether; (2) tolylene diisocyanate was reacted with N-methyldipropylene triamine in polypropylene glycol ether; (3) tolyelene diisocyanate was reacted with tolylene 2,4 diamine in polypropylene glycol; (4) tolylene diisocyanate was reacted with ethylene diamine in polypropylene glycol. In all the examples the mixtures were heated with stirring for an hour and viscous stable emulsions were obtained.
