Abstract

1,049,378. Automatic control. FISONS FERTILIZERS Ltd. Oct. 15, 1963 [Oct. 23, 1962], No. 39998/62. Heading G3R. [Also in Division G1] In an arrangement for the automatic control of the sulphate ion concentration in the reaction of sulphuric acid with phosphate rock to produce phosphoric acid, a filtered sample from the reaction vessel is fed over line 36 to a two stage diluting system. From this a measured quantity of diluted sample can be fed to mixing chamber 86 together with a measured amount of barium chloride solution on operation of the inlet valves. The mixture is stirred and then fed to the measuring cell 3 of a photo-electric turbidometer. This turbidometer may include a process timer providing a period during which the zero level of light falling on the photo-sensitive element through cell 3 when either empty or filled with water is set prior to measurement on a sample. The electrical output of the turbidometer is fed to controller 111 operating valve 113 pneumatically to control the acid flow to the reaction vessel. Programme device 45 controls the operation of the valves and turbidometer to direct successive samples to the test cell and automatically maintain the required sulphate ion concentration.
