Abstract

1,058,546. Valves. GRINNELL CORPORATION. May 6, 1964 [May 6, 1983], No. 18918/64. Heading F2V. A valve body 10 of a diaphragm valve, Fig. 1, or a tapered plug-lift valve, Fig. 6 (not shown). comprises a portion 16 providing walls of the flow passage, these walls being of substantially uniform thickness, a pair of end connections 12, 14, and a flange 22 defining a closure member opening. Walls 26 connect the flange to the portion 16. The body as a whole is made of relatively thin material of substantially uniform thickness, whereby it can be made by processes other than casting, and so that the flange has a measure of flexibility to assist in sealingly clamping the periphery of the diaphragm or a sealing gasket (138), Fig. 6. The clamp 44 of U-shaped section is split diametrally and drawn together by bolts (54), Figs. 1A to 1D and 4 and 5 (not shown). One or both of the external surfaces presented to the clamp by the body and bonnet flanges respectively, are tapered to correspond with a similar surface or surfaces on the clamp. In Fig. 6, the clamp comprises a diametrally split ring (120) beneath the flange (112) which is bolted to a whole ring (122) above the bonnet flange. In another embodiment of diaphragm valve, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the weir 32 is omitted.
