Abstract

1,058,649. Casting – machines. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. April 2, 1964 [April 5, 1963], No. 13748/64. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B5] A semi-automatic casting-machine forcasting hollow parts such as automobile pistons, is of the type having a collapsible core and comprises a split casting block 3, the two halves of which are movable horizontally by means of actuators 35, to open and close the die. A double-acting central actuator 36 controls the raising and lowering of a key 18 with its support 19 and the means controlling the mutual closing motion of the core elements 8. With the dies closed and ready for casting locking toes 14 on the machine frame engage flanges 15 of the core bearing device 13. The key 18 is fully raised and inserted between the core elements 8 which are therefore expanded and rollers 22 on the push-rods 21 are retracted from the core members by a toothed means 23, 24, associated with bell-crank levers 28. At the completion of the casting operation the key IS and support 19 are withdrawn by the central actuator 36, but the core elements remain in expanded relationship under spring means (not. shown). On reaching the end of its movement the key support 19 exerts pressure through its vertical pegs 20 on abutments 30 of a draw-link 29 which causes the draw-link to move downward and thereby pivot the bell-crank levers 27 which actuate push-rods 21 to close the core elements and free them from their matching cavities 9 in the casting. The actuators 35 are then operated to open the two parts of the die block 3 and cap 1 to release the coreboaring device 13 and subsequently free the cast component. 37. The dies are then closed and the actuators operated ready for the next casting operation. Means are provided in the machine for manual spreading of the core elements (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown), and for means associated with the manual spreading means for positioning distance pieces in the mould for casting within the cast component. The actuation of the various parts of the machine is effected by means of electromagnetic slide valves, selector and limit switches, and push-button operated timers all of known type. A number of the machines described may be mounted on a turret base and adapted to receive molten material. either metal or synthetic; plastics, from an automatic plantof known type.
