Abstract
1,058,850. Driving endless conveyers. GULLICK Ltd. July 8, 1965 [July 11, 1964], No. 28980/64. Heading B8A. An endless conveyer 10 mounted between idler sprockets 11 is driven by an arrangement of two or more double-acting hydraulic rams 12, 13 adapted to operate in a pre-determined sequence to impart a continuous motion to the conveyer. The rams are mounted between the upper and lower runs of the conveyer, each ram being provided with a pawl 15 which engages and drives the lower run of the conveyer during the extension stroke and disengages the conveyer during the retraction stroke. The valve controlling the fluid supply and return to a particular ram is operated by the movement of the piston of the ram immediately preceding first said ram, in operational sequence. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the pawl arrangement of Fig. 1 is replaced by a sprocket which on the ram extension stroke engages a rack and the conveyer whereby the latter is driven and on the retraction stroke, the rack is lifted out of engagement with the sprocket. In a further embodiment single acting rams are used, the retraction stroke thereof being effected by engagement of the ram with the upper run of the conveyer.
