Abstract

1,059,126. Swimming baths. G. L. LAISTER. Oct. 6, 1964 [Oct. 15, 1963], No. 40539/63. Heading A4N. [Also in Division F4] A combined solar heater and cover for a swimming pool comprises a panel consisting of an upper translucent sheet 11 spaced from a lower, currugated, heat-absorbent sheet 7 and conduit means for passing water from the pool between the sheets whereby the water is heated by solar heat. The lower sheet 7 may consist of galvanized corrugated iron with the uppermost surface blackened. In use, several panels, each having rope lifting handles (13), and supported in an inclined position on timbers (2, 3), are arranged over the pool when the latter is not being used for swimming; hence reducing radiation heat losses. A perforated conduit (9) is positioned along the upper ends of the panels and water pumped from the pool to the conduit (9) trickles downwardly over the corrugations from which it runs back into the pool. When the pool is required, either sufficient panels are removed, or the whole unit is moved to the side of the pool. Solar heating of the pool water may be continued in this position, temporary extensions being made if necessary to the corrugated sheets to conduct the heated water into the pool.
