Abstract

1,064,435. Expanding-wheel gear. H. SACKL. Aug. 10, 1964 [Aug. 22, 1963], No. 32517/64. Heading F2D. An expanding pulley comprises belt – engaging segments 3 having at one side spigots 4 slidable along radial slots 2 in a disc 1 fast with the pulley hub 11 and at the other side having threads 7 engaging spiral grooves 6 in a disc 5, release of a clamping nut 10 allowing rotation of the disc 5 on the hub 11 to effect radial movement of the segments. A stop 12 on the pulley hub 11 limits the extent to which the clamping nut 10 can be unscrewed, so that the segments 3 always remain in threaded engagement with the disc 5. A resilient pad 14, which may consist of, e.g., foamed rubber or P.T.F.E. covered by a metal sheet, separates the segments 3 from the disc 1. As shown, the segments 3 are provided on their belt-engaging surfaces with V-grooves, but these may be omitted.
