Abstract
1,070,277. Air traffic control systems. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON HOUSTON-HOTCHKISS BRANDT. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 30, 1963], No. 31729/64. Heading H4D. In an air traffic control system, a control officer sees aircraft on his ground radar and interrogates aircraft, which replies by giving its own position co-ordinates as determined by any known, e.g. hyperbolic, means. These co-ordinates are compared with those on radar and aircraft is thus identified. Any difference between radar co-ordinates and aircraft determined co-ordinates causes correction signal to be transmitted to aircraft to correct its instruments. Ground system also includes tracking system for interpolating aircraft position should aircraft position finding means break down. Comparison between radar co-ordinates and aircraft determined co-ordinates may be made on aircraft.
