Abstract
Free-flowing granular pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) consists of fine PETN crystals bound into friable aggregates by means of a brittle binding agent. Suitable binding agents are an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate or a solution of polyvinyl alcohol or sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Water-wet PETN is washed with the aqueous binding agent, filtered, aggregated into granules in a rotary drum, and sieved. The granules may be used in forming the core of a detonating fuse cord (see Division F3]ALSO:Free flowing granular pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) consists of fine PETN crystals bound into friable aggregates by means of a brittle binding agent. Suitable binding agents are an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate or a solution of polyvinyl alcohol or sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Water-wet PETN is washed with the aqueous binding agent, filtered, aggregated into granules in a rotary drum, and sieved. The granules may be used in forming the core of a detonating fuse cord (see Division F3).
